There are so many layers to this film I thought I'd start a thread about interpretations or opinions people have about the film or questions we'd like to pose to other fans of the film.
A few things I would be interested to find out other's interpretations on are
1) Why do you think Sissi goes back to Bodo's house after initially telling her to go away? One of Tykwer's themes in his films, especially in Heaven, is strangers who seem to be fated to each other and meet because of horrific circumstances. Did Sissi believe so strongly in this serendipity, or do you think she went back because she returns to the hospital and realizes she is trapped there with no life and no future and feels like going back to Bodo's house will break her life free from the trap she feels like she's in?
2) Sort of linked to the question above, about Sissi's trapped life, Otto says one of the most powerful lines in the movie:
Sissi: "I was worried that nothing would be the same as it was before"
Otto: "No, you were worried that everything would be the same as it was before"
What do you think Otto's motivations were? Did he help Sissi because he could, or do you think it was because he loved her? Why did he eat the smashed light bulb shards - because Sissi yelled at him, or was it because of something deeper, perhaps maybe he loved her because he felt she was the only person who cared for him in the world and he was scared she was going to leave him behind?
3) One thing I have always been curious about it Sissi's father. Was he always in the institution, or did he go insane after Steni killed his wife?
OK, that's probably enough for one post. I'd like to know what other tribe members think!
